Colin Kaepernick To Receive Harvard University’s W.E.B. Du Bois Medal

The W.E.B. Du Bois Medal is known to be the Highest honor in the field of African and African-American Studies in Harvard. This award was named after the Pan-African scholar,W.E.B. Du Bois who was the first African American to earn a doctorate from Harvard.
This Award is given to individuals from around the world for their contributions to promote the African culture. This year's award is going to Colin Kaepernick.
Remember Colin Kaepernick? The man responsible for the 2016 controversial one legged-kneel during the national anthem.

The former NFL San Francisco 49ers quarterback player is famous for his symbolic kneel which has raised debates on topics ranging from patriotism, troop disrespect to police brutality. And has also earned him recognition.
Kaepernick is seen to be a champion among people of color. Recently, Nike used him for their advertisement which set social media in frenzy.

The  “Believe in Something. Even if it Means Sacrificing Everything. Just Do It” Nike's campaign as sparked even more controversy. Kaepernick’s appearance in the campaign led to a country wide outrage and destruction of Nike products by mainly Caucasian Americans who felt the brand was remiss in supporting him.
Amidst this boycott by white Caucasians, it is reported by VOX that Nike has made $6 billion USD due to this guerilla ad strategy. It is apparent that the boycott has no effect.
Despite people taking to social media the destruction of their Nike gears and President Donald Trump saying Kaepernick is disrespectful to the United state's flag, the brand keeps thriving.
According to VOX, "With its post-Labor Day payout, Nike’s choice to build its brand around Kaepernick, what he stands for, and all the politics that come with it looks less and less like a risk and more like a surefire win"
Although, he was kicked out of the NFL and hasn't played since two years, every jersey in Nike's store that had his name on it sold out. He enjoys his life as a free agent and he is taking NFL to court for conniving to kick him out.
It is also important to mention his GQ Award. He was given the award of the citizen of the year by GQ in 2017.

His latest achievement is the W.E.B Du Bois Medal of honor from Harvard. He will be receiving this at a ceremony in Harvard's memorial hall on the 11th of October this year.
