Must life be hard? If
it must, why isn’t it to all?
Chiwetel opened his
eyes to yet another crack of dawn. Muttered his short prayers as usual, then
looked to the right side of the bed where he had a book he was reading before
crashing a night before. He continued from where he had stopped but he noticed
he was spending much time on a page. He kept reading lines he had read before
over and over again. It was apparent; his mind wasn’t in the book. Thoughts of
his life kept playing on his mind.
A 28 years old jobless
man with a Master’s degree who still survives on the little he gets from home
and from the engine oil business he runs in his father’s petrol station. Kai! Must life be hard?
Years back, before
completing his under graduate program in the university, he had it in mind to
get married latest by 28. Now, he is 28 and a tendency of having his wish actualized
has no certain likelihood. He has applied and applied for jobs; yet securing
one was to no avail. “Must life be hard?” that was his common rhetorical
question.
Chiwetel has been in a
relationship with Gift for the past 6 years. They had been dating since 200
Level. Gift secured a job immediately after NYSC and has been working for the
same company for almost 3 years now.
To be continued.
